How Carton Weight Is Calculated in Agility Pack Cartons / Fulfillment Manager

How Agility calculates and totals carton weight for the BOL

Carton Weight in Agility Pack Cartons and Fulfillment Manager is calculated automatically -- you do not need to manually weigh and enter a total for every carton.

How the calculation works

When an item is packed into a carton or on a pallet whether it is with the Pack cartons form on the handheld or in the Agility Pack and Ship screen as shown below

Agility pulls that item's weight from its Item Master Data record (Sales Data tab) and writes it to the package line field, WSPKGLIN.WEIGHT.

As items are added to (or removed from) the carton, those WSPKGLIN.WEIGHT values are tallied up into the package's total weight, WSPKG.WEIGHT.

The Bill of Lading (BOL) does not calculate its own weight -- it simply pulls the already-calculated total from WSPKG.WEIGHT, through the out-of-the-box Crystal Reports view installed with Agility (wsPkgBOLView_1, field wspkg_Weight).

In short: Item Master weight leads to WSPKGLIN.WEIGHT (per package line), which is tallied into WSPKG.WEIGHT (per carton), which the BOL pulls from directly.

Because WSPKG.WEIGHT is a calculated total based on each item's Item Master weight, it is only as accurate as the weight entered on that item record -- it is not a live scale reading.

If your warehouse captures the actual gross weight of each carton from a scale (for example, into a WSPKGLIN user-defined field via a handheld scanner), that scale weight does not automatically overwrite WSPKG.WEIGHT or appear on the BOL.

For scale weight integrations WiSys may need to modify the current packing screens on forms and fulfillment manager (Pick Pack and Ship) in order to accomodate user entered weights.
